Seychelles has opened a new domestic terminal.

Domestic travel between the islands of the Seychelles is expected to be easier following the opening of a new domestic terminal at Seychelles International Airport in Mahé.

The development includes a larger floor area, new check-in and baggage areas, arrival and departure lounges, drop-off and pick-up areas and security posts. The new terminal also has a spa, two restaurants and five shops. A pharmacy is also planned.

The new terminal is a two-minute walk from the international terminal.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Didier Dogley, said that over 60% of foreign visitors to Seychelles also travelled to other islands. “A significant number of these visitors connect directly to other islands for their vacation as soon as they land at the airport.”

FlySafair passengers are now able to receive their boarding passes via WhatsApp.

FlySafair now has four ways to receive an electronic boarding pass: Print, email, download and WhatsApp.

CemAir

CemAir has been recently grounded and has advised that they are unable to assist passengers.

At this stage, CemAir says they are unable to assist with re-accommodating stranded passengers, following the grounding of the airline by the South Africa Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).

“At this stage, our hands are tied and we cannot offer alternative solutions to our customers. As such, we advise you to book an alternative journey to your destinations and we will advise at the soonest possible time about a refund process for your booking with CemAir,” the airline said in a statement.

The CAA has suspended two of the airline’s Air Operator’s Certificates (AOC), grounding the airline indefinitely.

The airline added that it had submitted multiple possible solutions to the problems highlighted by the CAA, but claims all solutions were rejected, indicative of “malicious intent by the CAA to bring CemAir to its knees by grounding it unnecessarily at peak season”.
