Why Europe for South African Digital Nomads?
For South Africans, Europe offers several advantages:
Visa Options: Countries like Portugal, Spain, and Estonia have introduced digital nomad visas, allowing remote workers to stay for extended periods.

Time Zone Compatibility: Many European cities share similar or overlapping time zones with South Africa, making it easier to work with clients or employers back home.

Affordable Living: While some cities like London or Paris can be pricey, others, such as Lisbon or Budapest, offer a lower cost of living without sacrificing lifestyle quality.

Reliable Connectivity: High-speed internet and coworking spaces are readily available across Europe, ensuring seamless work conditions.

Making the Move as a South African Digital Nomad
Before embarking on a digital nomad journey in Europe, South Africans should consider:
Visa Requirements: Research digital nomad visa options and ensure compliance with the latest immigration policies.
Tax Implications: Understand how working remotely from a foreign country may impact tax obligations in South Africa.
Cost of Living: Compare expenses such as rent, transport, and daily necessities to determine the best destination based on budget and lifestyle preferences.

Best New Airline Winner - Lift

You may not have heard much about Global Brands Magazine because many of the awards given by them are for non South African companies. This year (2023 awards) Lift Airlines won the Best New Airlines Award by Global Brands Magazine (GBM).

Lift has been operational for 3 years and has 28 flights per day (as of January 2024).

GBM evaluates over 18000 companies and categorises them, evaluates and scores.

So what does this award mean?

I recently flew with Lift and I felt they were taking note of the small things that other airlines may be charging more for or simply removed. A simple refreshment in a Vida cup (It is debatable whether it is Vida coffee inside there though), nonetheless maybe more importantly is the ease to change flights with Lift.

Lift currently flys the following routes:

  • Cape Town – Durban
  • Cape Town – Johannesburg (OR Tambo)
  • Johannesburg – Durban
